• Christmas at Radisson Blu

Christmas at Radisson Blu has always been top on my list for the longest time. Imagine my joy when I was invited to review the Christmas menu! Ecstatic doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt. Maybe the thought of free food completely clouded my brain but I digress.

Here I was on a lovely Wednesday afternoon cruising down the street of Ozumba Mbadiwe in Victoria Island. My music was blaring but I was low-key using that to drown out the hunger grumbles from my stomach. I knew I was coming for a Christmas feast so breakfast was super light.

Finally, I pulled up to the entrance, the security scanned my car and I was in. I parked in a nice little corner and hopped out of the car ready to eat. The ambience when I walked in was very relaxing. There was light music playing in the back ground. From the corner of my eye, I spotted two gentlemen hurdled over their laptop working through excel sheets. There were a few other business meetings outside by the water but I scurried along to find my fellow foodies.

We chatted over our complimentary glass of juice about the current food industry and trends till it was time to take a tour around the hotel to see what the Christmas package offered. Our first stop was one of the rooms from the package deal. Cozy, clean and relaxing ambience was the vibe everyone got from the room.

The Radisson Blu staff mentioned that the offer from December 15th 2017 – January 15th 2018 was stay two nights and get the third night free. Each night costs N60,000 daily. That sounds like a major deal to me especially if you are from out of town or you want to take your family to Radisson Blu for Christmas. This deal comes with buffet breakfast, discounts from Upbeat recreational event centre’s mini soccer pitch, basketball court, go-karting and more family friendly activities.

    First Course

We moved on to the real reason I was there. The Food!!!! I was so hungry at this point, I forgot my manners and started digging into the complimentary bread. The Executive Chef Jade Sullivan came in at this point to brief us about the menu and the inspiration for the dishes. He started us off with a chicken dish done three different ways and titled it the Festive Poultry Platter. This indeed was a festive platter and it played around with different textures and flavours of very christmasy ingredients like apricots for his roulade. The caramelised onions were also a nice touch.

    Second Course

Next course was a cold soup which is generally not on the menu for a lot of restaurants in Nigeria. I thought this was a bold move and it was definitely one of my favourite things on the menu. The Chef served a spanish gazpacho which was very refreshing considering how hot that Wednesday was.

    Third Course

The next course was the main which was the Norwegian Salmon, Crumbed Mussels, Piped Mashed potatoes, Buttered peas, Pumpkin Puree with Lemon Cream. I loved how each element came together nicely without overpowering the other.

    Fourth Course

Finally the dessert was cheesecake with a cherry compote and vanilla ice-cream. At this point, I was just about ready to roll on the floor. There was no way I was walking out of there with all that yummy food weighing me down. I had to pick myself up somehow amidst the great food and great conversations and make my way out of there.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there and I would definitely be taking advantage of some of the Holiday packages Radisson Blu has.
