• Oatmeal Swallow

    If you have been following a lot of food groups on social media, you would have noticed an increase in healthier options for Nigerian dishes. Oatmeal swallow being one of these options. Fitfam is definitely winning this year online. I am still taking my time to catch up to the experiments but for people that are not part of that world, let me introduce you to an option that may not seem like much anymore. Why have eba or pounded yam when you can have oatmeal? Do not be alarmed, it works out perfectly.

    Here are some benefits of oatmeal

    • Oatmeal is a great source of fibre which helps aid digestion plus it definitely fills you up. Although the fibre content is high, oatmeal is still a carbohydrate so portion control is key.
    • Oatmeal can help lower blood cholesterol because of the fibre content.
    • Oatmeal helps stabilize blood glucose level.
    • Oatmeal enhances your immune response to diseases due to the beta gluten in the fibre.

    Recipe for Oatmeal Swallow

    Ingredients (Serves one)

    1 cup of Oatmeal

    3/4 cup of water

    Method

    There are 2 ways to make this. The first one is to blend the oatmeal till its a finer powder, Pour the water in a pot and heat it up. Pour in the oatmeal and stir till a dough is formed.

    The second way to make it is to blend the oatmeal as in the same way and pour the oatmeal in a microwaveable bowl. Pour in the water, stir and place in the microwave for 1 min 30 seconds. Take it out and stir till a dough is formed. Serve hot with any soup.

      What if I want to make oat swallow and I have mistakenly poured in too much water. How can I make it firm and sticky ?
